SHAPE project team met in Bristol in January 2016
The SHAPE team met in Bristol, England in the third week in January , 2016 to discuss the development of the CX1 SHAPE equipment and the design of the two test bridges to be constructed in Italy at Bologna University. A steel bridge and a concrete bridge will be designed to current codes and then tested to failure. The team has been episodically testing bridges in Italy, the UK and USA to provide information for development and calibration of the software systems. One of the bridges the team looked at was the Brunel designed Clifton Suspension Bridge, which exhibited interesting patterns in the Fast Fourier Transforms due to the unique design of the cable suspension system and the beams that make up the decking system.
